• 1 ml capacity with an IU graduation (from 1 to 100)
The 1 ml insulin syringe, graduated in IU, is the standard in harm reduction (HR).
• A fixed needle and a low dead space
lt is recommended to offer syringes with fixed needle as the first choice. They are referred to as "low dead space" syringes, with a dead space of less than 3 μL. The Selfinject's dead space is particularly low: 1 μL. The risk of viral transmission in the event of sharing is thus limited.
• A fixed but replaceable needle If the needle is damaged or clogged, it can be replaced without transferring the content of the syringe into a new one. lndeed, the Selfinject has a fixed but replaceable needle, which avoids such handling by simply replacing the needle.
This also enables to dispose safely of the syringe after use, by removing the needle.
• Several needle sizes available
Offering this choice enables to respond to different injection practices. The thinnest needles
• Optimal compatibility with Sterifilt® filters
Selfinject syringes are compatible with all Sterifilt® membrane filters. They fit onto the syringe in a single step. Press down until you hear a "click".
Assessment by PWID
When assessed by PWID, the following points were noted:
• Plunger: Flexible enough for a self-injection. The 1 ml stop is much appreciated.
• Needle: Penetrates the skin easily.
• Hub: The soft round end is considered less painful than cross-shaped ones.
RELATED ADVICE
+Syringes are for single use only and should never be shared. Sharing exposes to the risk of viral transmission (HIV, HVC).
+ To prevent infection risks, disinfect your hands before preparing the injection, disinfect the injection site with an alcohol swab, and never lick the needle.
